This fun and easy recipe was given to me by my dear cousin. It is a great treat to make with kids and will be a definite favourite for the chocolate lover in your life and especially if they love Mars bars.
Ingredients:
- 4 regular size Mars bars
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 cups Rice Krispies
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips
- Melt butter and Mars bars over medium to low heat in a large sauce pan until smooth (whisking helps)
- Remove from heat and stir in Rice Krispies
- Press into 8×8 greased pan
- Top with chocolate chips and place under the broiler for 30 seconds
- Remove from oven and spread chocolate evenly over square
- Put in fridge to set for 30 minutes to 1 hour
- Cut, serve and enjoy!

For the better part of 2011 I had been dreading the summer because I knew that with the sunny days, warm weather and ice cream my birthday would be lurking in the shadows. I can usually handle my age very well but there was something about the numbers 3 and 0 that really had me wondering what I was doing. Am I on the right path? Have I made good use of my life? Am I as far along as I should be at this age? And shouldn’t I be more mature by now? ( I do after all spend A LOT of time dreaming about candy)
As the day approached the wondering turned into some serious thought and I began to realize that I am actually quite content with my current life and for the most part ecstatic. I spend my days and nights with my family, playing with sweets and bringing smiles to peoples faces. With this realization I decided that I shouldn’t be dreading the day but embracing it and celebrating and thanking all the wonderful people that keep motivated and smiling. So to thank them I created one giant “caboodle” with all my favourites and some of theirs to help keep all of youthfulness alive.
Planning a party or hosting a family event has always been something I have enjoyed. Even back when I was a kid and my mother made me dust the living room because there was company coming, the anticipation of guests arriving was always so much fun. Last month when I sat down to plan the twin’s 2nd birthday I was reminded of being a kid and how much fun it was to have a birthday party, and I wanted our guests (mostly adults) to feel like kids again. For the past few months our boys have been infatuated with farm animals and a hand me down Fischer Price Farm from a neighbour, so the idea of a farm themed party was a no-brainer. The rest followed quickly…I would pull out mom’s old picnic blanket for inspiration and use gingham and (of course) the animals through out the house, make a batch of lemonade, and have my brother and hubby bbq some burgers. Entertainment wasn’t necessary since we have two toddlers in the house. Dessert needed to be special and I really wanted the boys to have something for each of them since they have to share so much already, so I ordered cupcakes and two larger smash cupcakes from my good friend Janine at Hooked On Fondant. The boys loved their cake and it saved me a lot of hours in the kitchen the day before. My love of candy and sweets has been passed down to the boys and is a very dominant trait in both of our families, so we decided that a candy buffet would be a fun way to thank our guests for all the sweet things they have done for the boys. We included a few of our favourites, including fuzzy peaches, sour keys, and a wide variety of crunchy, chewy, and chocolaty goodness, as well as personalized chocolate bars to ensure there was something to meet everyone’s sweet tooth. Goodie bags were included so guests could take some for later or to family and friends that weren’t able to join us. Despite the heat, the day was wonderful and as always our hard work was well worth it…the boys felt loved, we made some wonderful memories, and the candy buffet was a hit! My only regret is that the boys may not remember it all, but we have lots of pictures thanks to my wonderful sister in law, and I can guarantee a few years from now I will have them both dusting the living room because we have company coming.
I feel like a kid in a candy store with the completion of our new website! Take a look around and check back often as we are always coming up with new ideas that will help satisfy your sweet tooth.
Special thanks to Flitton Media for their design and support. It has been a real treat working with you. Also big hugs and kisses to our family, friends and customers for being so sweet.
